RMS Carinthia at Vickers Fitting Out Wharf
1924
View looking Southeast down the quay from the High Level Berth. Carinthia is complete and getting final coats of paint before departure. Outboard is a second vessel - probably passenger cargo vessel Moveria, built for the Donaldson Line and launched 10 October 1924. A lot of bits on quayside including covered railway wagons. Old Barrow station on left in background. Incorrect ship name given in catalogues ( Single funnel ship where as Orama had two). RMS Carinthia was built in Barrow for the Cunard White Star Line and sailed Liverpool Boston New York but was also used for cruising. As an armed merchant cruiser, she was torpedoed off the west coast of Ireland in June 1940.
