Launch of SS Newfoundland

View from south side of the the launchway of the ship just in the channel. Foot of an older style crane on left with timber at base. Rowing boats on right about to collect launch timbers. No crowd visible. Passenger Cargo ship built for the Warren Line. Was a mail ship to Canada. In WWII she was converted into a hospital ship. She was bombed and sunk as she approached Salerno in 1943 with the loss of 38 lives including her doctors.
