Launch of SS Newfoundland
Jan 1925
Photo of a photo. View from a crane of the starboard aft quarter of the ship on the stocks days before launch - Props still under ship and launchway not greased. Cranes have 'sails' over counterbalance weights to allow them to align with the wind. Passenger Cargo ship built for the Warren Line. Was a mail ship to Canada. In WWII she was converted into a hospital ship. She was bombed and sunk as she approached Salerno in 1943 with the loss of 38 lives including her doctors.
