MV Dorsetshire
1927
View of stern of ship taken from a tug as she held in the channel. The ship was registered in Liverpool. Row of navigation marks leading down the channel towards Piel Island. Bibby Line ship built by Harland & Wolff in 1920. Had Burmeister & Wain diesel engines. Built with extra height between decks so she could be converted to a troop ship but her initial role was a tin ore cargo vessel. She was so converted to a troop ship at Barrow in 1927, with her sister ship Somersetshire. Converted to a hospital ship in 1939. Decommissioned in 1948 before Harland & Wolff refitting her for tourists for the Bibby Line. Later used as accommodation ship before being scrapped 1954.
