Painting of a Motor lifeboat approaching a ship in extreme weather; believed to be at the Mersey Bar - the entrance to the river leading into Liverpool. The title 'Here comes the lifeboat' is written on the frame. The French coaster Emile Delmar was beaten by gales around 24th November 1928, The crew were rescued by the New Brighton lifeboat. William McDowell painted several versions of the event, Another version was used in the 1933 RNLI calendar.
