Looking northeast at Sandy Gap (The Shore) on a pleasant, summer holiday or weekend late afternoon. Crowds relax, many on deck chairs. Three men are rather formally dressed for a beach day, children play in the sand and a baby splashes in a pool. On the track behind the shingle bank, a horse-drawn ice cream cart attracts patrons. A tower (‘Fort Walney’) can be seen on the left horizon.
