The Beach Walney Island
1930s
Looking north at Sandy Gap (The Shore) at low tide on a pleasant, summer holiday or weekend early afternoon. Crowds relax, many on deck chairs. Younger women are casually dressed with older - and several men - more formally attired for a beach day. Some beachgoers have arrived by bike. On the shingle a horse-drawn ice cream cart attracts patrons. A tower ('Fort Walney’) can be seen on the right over the field.
