Ramsden Square

1950s

Looking north-west at Ramsden Square in spring from a first-floor window on the southwest side of Duke Street. The square, with its well-managed lawns and flower beds, is dominated by the very impressive public library while, beyond, upper Duke Street continues through Hindpool past the tall, slim spire of St Mary of Furness Pugin-designed church to the Iron & Steel works. The former’s chimney is visible in the distance.
