This street scene shows a wide road with a woman pushing a pram on the left by the shops as a horse drawn vehicle heads towards us. A young boy stands watching the photographer, clutching a spade. A man in the right foreground carries a shopping basket. Doody's grocers advertises that they sell Darbyshires 'prize' bread. The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank is on the left next door to a butchers with a sign for selling 'grass fed lamb', joints of meat hanging in the window.
