Wrecked Crane
2 Sept 1907
The remains of a partially collapsed dockside crane at Buccleuch dock. The rear section has broken away leaving only the support tower and jib remaining. Part of the wreckage is visible in the left foreground. The funnels of a ship can be seen in the dock. Beyond are various buildings, Saint George's Church can be seen behind the crane tower. The crane was the new 150 ton crane which was still under construction. The balance box which weighed 150 tons broke off. Fortunately this happened between 3am - 4am and so there were no workmen about and nobody was hurt.
