View east from the castle tower looking over smoky roofs of the town to distant hills. Cavendish Arms is on the right and unnamed pub is opposite. Two policemen are standing in the street at the junction with the Barrow road. Beyond is a large white building – Lancaster Banking Co Ltd. There are a few people and two horse and carts, one with coal sacks, and man with a hand cart.
