Ruskin’s Monument

Portrait view of the elaborately carved memorial stone for John Ruskin in the churchyard of St Andrews in Coniston. It was designed by his Secretary and friend, W G Collingwood and was carved by a mason from Ulverston, H T Miles. It takes the form of Anglo-celtic cross with a slightly tapering rectangular shaft, cross head with swept arms, interlace scrollwork and symbolic panels intended to suggest Ruskin’s writings.
