Steam Yacht Swift

1910s

View of Swift steaming north up Windermere with cloud covering the top of the fells around Fairfield. Two masts and a single funnel with a number of vents from the saloon below where some square portholes have been opened. Two crew members forward of the funnel at the wheel. Passengers standing and sitting on the deck, many with straw hats. Swift was launched at Lakeside in 1900 at a cost of £9500 and worked until the start of World War II. She sailed under steam until her boiler burst and was converted to diesel in 1958 and withdrawn in 1984. Attempts to preserve her failed and she was broken up in 1999.
