High Carley Sanatorium
1920s
Looking north from a high point on the Great Urswick to Pennington road past the hospital buildings towards Kirkby Moor. In the centre is a three-storey brick building with two low wings providing open wards for the tuberculosis patients -the women’s wing to the left and the men’s to the right. Not clear if the chimney is part of the hospital or belonging to the mine spoil heaps beyond.
