View west from St Michael’s Church tower over the River Derwent across the Solway to the Dumfries hills. Railway with signal gantry and footbridge as it approaches the viaduct. To the right, partly demolished Lowther Iron Works with a square chimney and slagbank beyond on the edge of the sea. Chemical Works buildings and cranes around the Lonsdale Dock on the far side of the river.
