A view southwards along the road to the end of the valley, now swallowed by Haweswater Reservoir. Contemporary cars are parked outside the Hotel, and Gatescarth Pass between Branstree (left) and Harter Fell (right) is lined with snow (the remains of a cornice). There is a copse of pine trees opposite the Hotel.
