Eskdale Green

mid-20th century

Looking almost east, possibly from a train on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway at a traditional farming scene in Eskdale at harvest time with the hay cut and turned, the implement having been used standing in the foreground behind a barbed wire fence. In the distance, the ground rises and a number of substantial houses are spread thinly along a road behind dry stone walls; several mature, deciduous trees are planted in this area. Beyond, more trees extend up a slope in front of the high fells on the north side of the valley.
