Nab Cottage Rydal
mid-20th century
Portrait view. Looking north across the main road at a whitewashed, slate-roofed traditional Lakeland cottage with distinctive windows and porch standing in its own garden behind a shrub-topped, slate garden wall with a more modern metal fence topping and matching gate to the access road. A diamond-shaped date stone shows 1702 while signs on the porch offer Homemade Lemonade, Teas & Mineral Waters to thirsty travellers. A 'modern' garden gate onto the main road is also across the access road in front of the photographer where a low slate wall is topped by railings to match those opposite. Behind the cottage, a cow grazes in a field, beyond which are the trees of Knott Wood reaching up to Nab Scar. (cf H89AX & H90A)
