Looking north on an overcast summer's day against the backdrop of the Lakeland fells at a busy scene on Windermere. In the foreground, a rowing boat with two young oarsmen passes a sailing boat with tender whose owner has raised the sails ready for departure. Other rowing boats and sailing dinghies dot the lake but the scene on the water is dominated by the two busy, big 'steamers'; 'Swan' leaves Bowness Bay heading north to Ambleside and Teal makes a wide turn on her port bow having made the journey south and prepares to make her way to Bowness Pier.
