Looking east-northeast on an overcast summer's day from north of Brown Howe on the west side of Coniston Water at a view up to the top of the lake and the Langdales beyond. Trees to the left and a large tree to the right frame the view of the lake which is at a lower level than the main road which occupies the bottom left corner of the image. Two dark saloons are parked against the bank, facing north, while a woman in a dress walks to the corner nearby, better to take in the view.
