Grasmere

Mid-20th Century

Looking northeast under afternoon sun and a partly cloudy sky, along Broadgate Lane with the imposing fell of Fairfield in the distance. The gently-curving road is quite substantial for the northern entry into the village with a grass verge planted with ornamental trees to the left, separated from a field by a Dry Stone wall. On the right, at the corner of a side road, a wall sign proclaims 'Handicrafts & Needlecraft' while further on there are several slate-built commercial premises including a bakers, tea room, taxi base and guest house or hotel. The image is titled 'H545/216 Broadgate, Grasmere' for postcard printing purposes. Portrait view.
