Tarn Hows

Mid-20th Century

Titled incorrectly in the catalogue with the word Coniston added - amended here - this is an image of a print, looking east-northeast from an elevated position through a pillared gap in a dry stone wall at Tarn Hows. A man may just be seen ascending the slope behind the wall on the right. The tarn margins to left and right are densely populated with conifers which also cover the hill behind the tarn, a contrast with the higher Hills of the Langdales whose dark silhouette contrasts with the cloudy but bright sky. The image is titled 'H577/220 Coniston Lake and Old Man' for postcard printing purposes.
