Between the shore and a tree-covered island, two well-filled, wooden launches head southwards while there is plenty of other activity on the water with rowing and sailing boats. Beyond the gentle slopes leading down to the lake in the distance, the high Lakeland fells provide a dramatic backdrop to the image.
