Looking north towards Skiddaw Mountain, this is the lighter shaded peak in the centre of the picture. In the foreground a road runs alongside a wide stony river (the River Derwent). Beyond the river are low tree covered hills. Larger trees at each side frame the mountains. A woman carrying a basket with another person are partly visible through the trees on the right.
