Date Posted: Ennerdale is a valley in the west of Cumbria. It runs from the high Lakeland fells (including Great Gable, Pillar and High Stile westwards to the coastal plain. The lower part of the valley floor is occupied by Ennerdale Water, which is some 3km long. The upper part of the valley has historically been used by the Forestry Commission for commercial forestry. Since 2003, the Wild Ennerdale project has been in place, aimed at removing the mature historic trees and re-introducing more local species. The valley is relatively unspoiled due to its remote location and because there is no public access by road beyond Bowness Knott near the foot of the lake. The Anglers Inn was demolished in 1961.
