Date Posted: Great Gable is one of the best known and climbed of the Lakeland fells. On its summit is the war memorial plaque. The fell, along with a large part of the surrounding area-, was donated to the National Trust after the First World War by the Fell & Rock Climbing Club, who had purchased the land as a memorial to the members of the club who had fallen in the war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Gable
