"Lowbyer Manor Hotel, Alston, Cumberland 15.8.58 We are having a really lovely holiday here. No idea the country up here was so wonderful. Mountains, mountains & more mountains. I wish you could both see it all too. We had one day in the Lakes & yesterday went to Edinburgh. It is 120 miles from here but well worth it to get into SWcotland. A splendid drive up in pouring rain, all the way & we arrived before our friends, -words unclear- satisfactory! Love from us all. -initials illegible-”
