"Amblesdide. My dear Mrs Evans. I do hope that you are feeling much stronger now that the summer has really come. We are spending a delightful time here and feel sorry to leave for Rhyl tomorrow. It is certainly very beautiful here and the lakes are lovely. P,C. chose the hotel at which we are staying. At the present moment we are on the lawn in front. With much love and best wishes from Edith.”

The Esplanade, Ambleside
Mid 1920s
View east across Windermere at the head of the lake taken from a boat. The Esplanade is a terrace of four-storey buildings between the shore and the main road to Kendal. The only person in view is a lady sitting on a deck chair in the shade of a tree. Here are two rowing boats, one tied to the bank and one moored off the shore.
