| Date Posted: | Sussex gardens address now a hotel. Corby ferry rowing boat operated until 1954. Ferryman lived in the white cottage depicted in the card image. Location is in Wetheral/Great Corby/ Carlisle area. Pre NHS some people had medical/dental insurance as a result of being a member of a friendly society or trade union.( Joe sender was a member of a fs) Bristol Post source for some history | |

Corby Ferryman's Cottage
1922-1926
Looking East across the river Eden. A man, woman and small boy are about to be ferried across the river. The boy appears to be 'helping' the ferryman push off with the boat hook. A smart whitewashed ferryman's cottage is on the opposite bank.
