"33, Anzac Ave Isle of Walney Wed. Dear Grandpa, Do you know I do believe this is the very first time I have written to you isn't it? I see that Helen has told you about the wild waves so I must talk about something else. We have been very fortunate as regards weather so far. It is very bright although it is extremely windy. We went to Bowness on Monday and had a lovely time there. We went on Lake Windermere in a small boat whilst we were there and rowed about 1 1/2 miles down the lake. The hills were wonderful, many of them were shrouded in mists and we couldn't see the tops. We have been in the sea twice since we came. It was so cold on Sunday morning that I almost froze to the beach. Helen is waiting to go out now so i must stop. Best love to all Dorothy.”
