Open air swimming pool, South Shore
Early C20th
Taken from the Victoria Pier (renamed South Pier in 1930), and looking over the open-air swimming pool towards the Pleasure Beach. Ornate cast iron seating lines the edge of the Pier, looking inwards. An enormous crowd fills the seating of the swimming pool, though most appear to be standing, suggesting a competition is taking place. There is a clear, cloudless sky, though people are wearing overcoats and it may be windy, looking at the child on the pier. It's low tide, with some paddlers.
