"Am finishing off my holiday here - it is an awfully nice place and the weather has been fairly kind. I've had some golf too. Thanks for your card. Hope you enjoyed your holiday and are now ready for the fray. How is Ursula? Mabel”

Date Posted: The photo shows the view looking south along the coast from 'the Pavilion' to Silloth dock In the background it shows a pier which was external to the dock gates, presumably for ships to moor while waiting for the dock gates to be opened. The port was historically used for the import of wheat, timber, ore and guano. Passenger services stopped at the start of World War II. The port remains in use, with it principally being used for the import of grain for Carrs Flower Mill on the dockside and the McVities biscuit factory in Carlisle. The port is co-managed with Barrow docks by Associated British Ports. The pier's condition was poor by World War I and it was allowed to deteriorate. The last remaining section was developed in the 1970s Silloth is a very small town on the Cumbrian coast just the south of Carlisle. It is rather dominated by the Carrs Flour Mill and numerous caravan parks.
