Schoolhouse St Bees School

View of Schoolhouse built in 1886 as the Headmaster’s residence. Sandstone building four storeys high mostly covered in ivy. Two watering cans stand by the side of the path. The school was founded in 1583 by Edmund Grindal Archbishop of Canterbury, who was born in St Bees, at Cross Hill House. The oldest part of the school, now known as Foundation opposite the Priory Church, was built by 1587.
