Balfours Private Owners Coal Wagon
Early 20th century
A seven-plank 'private owner' coal wagon belonging to the merchant Robert Balfour Ltd stands at the coal dock amid the extensive sidings off Hindpool Road near the end of Market Street, between a four-plank wagon full of loose coal and the end of another smaller wagon. Sacks of coal on the dock may be seen behind while the roofs of the Wesleyan Methodist church and Market Hall are visible beyond, with the tower of the Town Hall beyond them. (Slightly wider view of 7707)
