Launch Orcades (Orient Line) Dec 1 1936

Orcades entering Walney Channel with drag chains in full tension to slow down the entry speed. Wooden debris from the launch floating each side of hull, Union flag flying from jackstaff at bow and Vickers Armstrong house flag flying from the bridge. Used as a troopship during WW2, Orcades was sunk by U172 off South Africa in 1942. Incorrect launch date from ledger - should read 7 Decmer 1936, not 1 December 1936
