Launch Orcades (Orient Line) December 1st 1936

Launch platform for launch, Top Yard, of Orcades on the 1st December 1936 with dignitaries assembled and bottle about to smash onto the bow of the ship. Camera with photographer in view under the main platform. Ship was used as a troopship during World War Two and sunk off South Africa 10th October 1942 by U-Boat 172. Note the shipwright under the rostrum, organising the launch coordination, also the movie cameraman. Incorrect date in title (as per ledger) of 1 December 1936, should be 7 December 1936
