Orcades built at Vickers Barrow for the Orient Line. Launched on 7th December 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route. Requisitioned by British Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U Boat 172 off South Africa in Oct 1942. Photo probably taken from Roa Island. Vessel steaming under its own power, small boat near the vessel's port quarter.
