RMS Orcades built at Vickers Barrow-in-Furness for the Orient Line. Launched 07 Dec 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route. requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U Boat 172 off South Africa in Oct 1942. Vessel slipping its mooring lines and preparing to be towed out of Barrow dock complex.
