Orcades leaving Barrow July 7th 1937

Orcades built at Vickers Barrow for the Orient Line. Launched 7th December 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route. Requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U-Boat 172 off South Africa in October 1942. Vessel slipping its mooring lines and preparing to be towed out of Barrow docks complex.
