Orcades leaving Barrow July 7th 1937

Orcades built at Vickers Barrow-in-Furness for the Orient Line. Launched 7th Dec 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route. Requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U-Boat 172 off South Africa in Oct 1942. Vessel in transit under its own steam, heading just off Roa Island out of Walney Channel.
