Orcades leaving Barrow July 7/1937
7 Jul 1937
Orcades built at Vickers Barrow- for the Orient Line. Launched 7th December 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route. Requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U-Boat 172 off South Africa in October 1942. Vessel being towed by tugs in Ramsden Dock and heading towards the dock gates.
