Orient Line Stratheden

10 June 1937

Stratheden was launched on the 10th June 1937at Vickers Armstrong Barrow for P&O to operate its UK to Australia run. She was requisitioned by the Admiralty during World War Two and was extensively used as a troopship in both theatres of war. The photograph shows the vessel entering Walney Channel after launch, hold-back chains are slack and about to be disconnected while small boats collecting wooden debris and tugs about to connect for tow.
