Launch Strathallan

Strathallan after launch entering the Barrow Docks complex stern first through the dock gate assisted by tugs, its wooden launch cradle still visible on the bow. Note that one of the vessels in attendance appears to be an heavily-loaded passenger ship! Strathallan was built for P&O and was launched on 29th September 1937. requisitioned by the Admiralty during World War Two and used as a troop and hospital ship until sunk by U172 in the Mediterranean during December 1942.
