Launch of Orcades

RMS Orcades built at Vickers Barrow-in-Furness for the Orient Line. Launched 7th December 1936 and used for the NZ and Australian route until requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1939 and used as a troopship. Torpedoed and sank by U Boat 172 off South Africa in Oct 1942. Vessel just been launched into Walney Channel, with wooden launch debris been cleared by small boats and tugboats attempting to take vessel in tow.
