Fenella leaving Barrow

Fenella was built for Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and launched on 16 Dec 1936. Requisitioned by the Admiralty during World War Two and used for the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk were she was sunk with a great loss of life, many of them the Manx crew. In this image, taken from Roa Island , she is passing Piel Island and about to enter the Irish Sea.
