Strathallan & Stratheden on Stocks

June 1937

Stratheden (in the foreground) and Strathallan (in the background and ready for launch) under construction with three workers in the foreground looking towards the camera. The ships were built for P&O and launched on 10th June 1937 and 29th September 1937 respectively. Both were requisitioned by the Admiralty during World War Two and used as a troop and hospital ship. Strathallan was sunk in Dec 1942 by U172 in the Mediterranean while Stratheden survived the war and remained in service until1969.
