Stratheden leaves Barrow
1937
Stratheden departing Barrow on a rainy day, the image probably taken from Roa Island as she approached the end of Walney Channel. She was launched on the 10th March 1937 at Vickers Armstrong Barrow-in-Furness for P&O to operate its UK to Australia run. Requisitioned by the Admiralty during World War Two, she was extensively used as a troopship in both theatres of war.
