View of the large scaffolding-built rostrum for the launch of Strathallan with P&O and Vickers dignitaries and guests present on 29th September 1937. Shipyard workers and Vickers Band are in view below. During World War Two the Admiralty requisitioned the vessel and used it as a troop and hospital ship until sunk by U172 in the Mediterranean during December 1942. Note the clock tower above the joiner’s workshop, with someone standing underneath.
