Launch Orient Line Orcades

After World War Two, the Orient Line, like many other British and Commonwealth shipping companies, embarked on rebuilding their fleets due to their losses. Orcades was launched on 14th October 1947 and initially was used mainly to transport people to new lives in Australia and New Zealand. ('£10 Poms') Image shows Orcades entering Walney Channel with tug boats in attendance and a crowd of shipyard workers at the bottom of the slipway.
