Launch Oronsay

The Orient Line, after World War Two, like many other British and Commonwealth shipping companies, embarked on rebuilding their fleets due to their losses. Oronsay was launched on 30th June 1950, and initially was mainly used to transport people to new lives in Australia and NZ. ('£10 Poms') Image shows Oronsay entering Walney Channel with Tugs in attendance, Vickers house and Union flags flying; crowd of shipyard workers at the bottom of the slipway.
